Adrienne Kohn Program for Spritual Growth with Rodger Kamenetz

Adat Shalom is thrilled to welcome Rodger Kamenetz for the Adrienne Kohn Program for Spritual Growth. Kamenetz is an award-winning poet, author and teacher, best-known for The Jew in the Lotus. His account of an historic dialogue between rabbis and the Dalai Lama became an international bestseller, prompting a reevaluation of Judaism in the light of Buddhist thought.
The New York Times called it a “revered text.” His newest book which he will be teaching from at Adat Shalom is Seeing into the Life of Things: Imagination and the Sacred Encounter.
Sponsored by the Adrienne Kohn Fund for Spiritual Growth
Weekend Schedule
Saturday, November 15th | 1 PM | Shabbat Workshop: How to Count Your Blessings
We are living in a storm of reactivity. Everywhere in our social media, in our politics, and in the news, we are encouraged to react. This workshop will explore how to use Jewish practice to overcome these afflictive states of mind and find our way back to feeling a little bit more sane. We will refresh the daily Jewish morning gratitude practice, learn how to find blessings in the every day, and how to cherish them, giving us strength and resilience as we face the storm.
Sunday, November 16th | 12 PM | Lunch & Learn
The Dalai Lama asked two questions to the Jewish scholars and rabbis who met with him in Dharamsala in 1990. The first was about Jewish spiritual survival in exile. The second, which has become increasingly important, is the problem of reactive emotions and how our spiritual practices might “purify” these states of mind. In this talk, Kamenetz will explore these two questions, the answers offered then, and how these questions are still relevant today. The talk will be followed by an open Q and A. Seeing Into the Life of Things will be available for purchase and autographs during the program.
(Registration for lunch is now closed).
