Fight Like a Mensch: Strengths for Fighting Authoritarianism
Fight Like a Mensch: Strengths for Fighting Authoritarianism

Feeling frozen by the pain of all that’s going on around us? Are you working every way you can for democracy, but yearning for a sense of spiritual rootedness in your efforts? Do you seek the stamina and skills to navigate charged situations and conversations in these fraught times?
Adat Shalom is pleased to be one of many communities nationwide to host Fight Like a Mensch, a pilot, peer-facilitated program rooted in Mussar (applied Jewish ethics) and Chassidut (applied Jewish mysticism), and designed by Rabbi David Jaffe (our 2023 Adrienne Kohn Program for Spiritual Growth guest speaker) and his colleagues at Kirva. Our series will be co-facilitated by Minna Scherlinder Morse and Polly Panitz, with training and support from Kirva, and additional support within Adat Shalom from Rabbi Scott, Martha Hare, and others. Read this flyer for more information on the pilot.
Participants will meet biweekly over the first half of 2026, and with chevruta/study-partners in between, while focusing on character strengths (middot) that speak to this moment and learning important practices for self-regulation, de-escalation, discernment, courage, and change-making. Sessions will begin on Saturday, January 31st. Click here to view the scheduled dates and time, and complete the interest form.
