April 30 @ 7:00 pm
Join Rabbi Scott via Zoom in conversation with Jenna Joselit discussing her new biography of Mordechai Kaplan – the founder of Reconstructionist Judaism.
Mordecai M. Kaplan (1881–1983) was a leading American Jewish thinker and founder of Reconstructionism who reshaped Jewish identity through reason and evolving tradition. Jenna Weissman Joselit’s portrait, drawn from his private writings, offers fresh insight into modern Judaism and faith.
Jenna Weissman Joselit, the Charles E. Smith Professor of Judaic Studies & Professor of History, specializes in the history and culture of America’s Jews and in U.S. cultural history from the late nineteenth century on through the 1950s, and also directs a graduate program in Jewish cultural arts.
